Administering Commission

The Administering Commission is responsible for overseeing the care of that which has been entrusted to the congregation and managing the financial and business affairs of the congregation. In fulfilling its mission, the Commission and associated task force members addressed a variety of issues. The Commission members who served during 2007 were Terry Domm, Chuck Frew, Bob Lamb, Claudia Lever and Pat McMillan. Chuck Frew and Pat McMillan served as Council representatives.

Highlights of the 2007 activities are as follows:

Property

The Property Task Force led by Bob Lamb continues to keep the building and grounds in excellent shape. This group works diligently in the background, tending to a long and never ending list of projects to maintain, repair and improve the physical facilities. This important task force is currently short handed and would welcome new members. Tasks are typically of short duration and can be worked at the participant’s convenience.

Several significant facility modifications were considered by the Commission during the year.  A sanctuary sound system upgrade to address hearing and recording issues was accomplished by Paul Norder. Paul did an excellent job of identifying the requirements, soliciting and evaluating proposals, and working with the company selected to purchase and install the new system. A request to relocate several pews in the sanctuary in order to provide additional space for the bell choir was addressed by the Commission. Bids were obtained and the work to modify and relocate the pews was overseen by Chuck Frew and Bob Lamb. Nelson Lingle ably designed a solution and installed vision windows in classroom doors to meet concerns identified while drafting a Sexual Misconduct Policy.

A sinkhole in the parking lot was repaired following direction from Pat McMillan. Pat also arranged to replace defective glass in Pastor’s office windows that had become an eyesore.

Raaen and Becky Ball Scholarships

The Commission drafted a clarification to the policy for the Raaen Scholarship. The revision states that new contributions will be added to the principal. Applications for the Raaen and Becky Ball scholarships were received and reviewed and recommendations were made to provide scholarship assistance to nine qualified candidates.

Finances

The financial health of the congregation was monitored and trends tracked. The Building Fund reserves increased slightly during the year due to contributions exceeding the mortgage obligation. The Commission will recommend facility improvements to be funded by the reserves.

Insurance Coordinator

An opportunity exists for someone to serve as coordinator of insurance needs of the congregation. The job entails reviewing insurance needs, obtaining competitive bids, conducting periodic property inventories, and recommending coverage. This is a task that does not require attending regular meetings and can be done whenever convenient.

2008 Priorities

The Commission identified the following as top priorities for emphasis in 2008:

  • Conduct a facility needs study
  • Maintain and care for church property
  • Oversight of the financial health of the congregation
