Thanks to all who made the Flower Festival a success! Several groups participated, including Ringspiration and Chancel Choir, Grace Writers, Blanket Workshop, Arissa Garden Club, Girl Scouts, and the Iris Society. Worshipping, Proclaiming, and Nurturing Commissions provided great support to the Flower Guild in planning and carrying out this event. Pastor Norma and Pastor Larry inspired and encouraged the Flower Guild, and Victoria and Kim gave us the assistance we needed. Several volunteers served as greeters, furniture movers, clean-up crew, and overall helpers during the event. Much appreciation goes to all who came on a rainy Saturday afternoon and to those who brought plants for the plant exchange. The springtime music celebration, under the direction of Slade Trammell, on Sunday afternoon provided a fitting conclusion to the Flower Festival. Music and flowers—heavenly!
The Flower Guild chose a theme, For the Beauty of the Earth, based on the hymn by that name, using flowers to praise God for all his creation. Flower Guild members, with Vickie Kitts as coordinator, decorated the sanctuary and each church entrance with flowers.
Arissa Garden Club, a group that meets at Grace, hosted a flower show that was on display in the narthex from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. There were three floral design categories: For the Glory of the Skies, For the Wonder of Each Hour, and For the Sun, in keeping with the Festival theme. In addition, there werefour categories of horticulture on display. Both design and horticulture entries were judged by a panel of National Garden Club accredited judges. Two members of Grace, Evelyn Lorenz and Ruth Smiley, are members of Arissa.
Arissa Garden Club sponsored a flower show during the Flower Festival. Club members are shown here with the garden they maintain at Oak Ridge Public Library. Cathy Waitinas is club president.
